✅We have been supporting autistic young women on Monday mornings via our Explore Programme since January. ✅The programme is 12 weeks long and this particular 12 week programme ends at Easter. ✅The group has explored Train and Bus Travel as well as the Job Centre, CVs, Hopes and Aspirations, Shopping, the Library and lots more. 💞We are so proud of these young women for stepping out of their comfort zones to take part in this pilot of the Explore Programme. ✅We hope to revisit the Explore Programme in the future but in the meantime local autistic young women are very welcome to join our Monthly Young Women's Group. WEEKDAY GROUPS: We have been very lucky to have professional photographer Sarah Hogan run a recent photography project in our Alternative Provision over the last couple of weeks. In our first session the girls were learning a little about a career in photography. Sarah showed the girls examples of her work including magazines and books. The girls made some simple L cardboard viewfinders and Sarah explained how these can be used to help compose an image. The Group then went for a photo walk with the viewfinders and had lots of discussions about what they could see and ideas of what they could do next. In the second session the girls could use Sarah’s digital camera to set up anything they wanted. Sarah also provided Sunprint paper and various props. The girls had an opportunity to use Sarah’s first ever camera, a Polaroid Cool Cam which she has had since she was 13. Polaroid and Sunprints are a really fun and magical way to get inspired by photography. Sarah says, “it felt a bit full circle for me, sharing my first ever camera with the girls who are the same age as I was when I first fell in love with photography. I hope the girls enjoyed the experience, it was great fun sharing my knowledge and experiences of my career as a professional photographer”. Wow our Weekday Teen Groups had such a fabulous time @rhswisley today! Thanks to Charlotte and her team for making it such a great morning. The girls were given the challenge of making a working Ferris wheel using nothing but lolly sticks, wooden dowel and a hot glue gun. Size, shape and height were all mapped out on a table by each girl but problems came along that needed solving! This half term is all about the lolly stick!

STEM today was a game where the girls had to work together to “save” a drowning worm. The worm and the life preserver were Haribo sweets. The girls could only use paper clips to get the worm out of the “water” and inside the life preserver. The worm is voiced by Kris and is hilarious!
